About the Book

Pat Ahearn is the director of a busy, active senior center in the small town of Rockledge. She tells a lively tale of love, tragedy, conflict and even an old murder that went undiscovered for over thirty years.

Three widows, living in elderly housing are the main characters. Marge is the oldest and bitter about being deserted by her husband and left to bring up her two children by herself, or so she thought. Ginger is a shy and emotionally needy person who clings to Marge and Maureen as her only family, but finally makes it on her own. Maureen is in the throes of late life romance and has a big problem with sex. Jay is the man who wants to marry her.

Meet the circle of friends young and old. Bert, the "kid" is a 51 year old Vietnam veteran who turns his life around in a hurry after his mother is beaten and robbed in her apartment. Linda is a minister and hospital chaplain and love is in the air for them.

Meet Gallo the gangster who has a heart attack and McKee the "hit man" who is singing sweet songs to the FBI. Some people will go to jail.

Meet Jack, Pat’s loving husband, and meet Pat who has issues of her own to deal with in this hectic arena.

Meet some wonderful elders who have a handle on life and how to live it.

Life in the last lane is where reality sets in and it has a bittersweet edge to it.
